Google has resolved a mapping error that led drivers to navigate down a staircase in central Edinburgh, causing multiple vehicles to become stuck at the same spot. The issue, which resulted in two cars getting stranded at the foot of Calton Hill, has been rectified by the tech giant.

According to reports, a white Vauxhall and a white Toyota taxi were both trapped at the steps off Leith Walk, near the Theatre Royal Bar. The initial incident occurred on December 19, with the Vauxhall needing to wait overnight before being rescued.

One witness described the scene on social media, recounting the moment when the car appeared to mount the pavement, leading to a loud crunch. Another individual expressed frustration at the lack of protective measures for pedestrians against drivers.

The route, previously accessible for vehicles, has since been modified with the installation of steps and a dividing pavement. Images shared on social media depicted the cars stuck at the same location, prompting cautionary advice from users to avoid navigating down Greenside Lane.
