Glen Powell, known for his role in ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, is set to star in Edgar Wright’s adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘The Running Man’ for Paramount Pictures. The dystopian action film, based on King’s novel published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman, will see Powell stepping into the role originally played by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 cult classic.
Edgar Wright, acclaimed for his work on ‘Shaun of the Dead’ and ‘Last Night in Soho’, will not only direct but also produce the film alongside Simon Kinberg and Nira Park. Powell’s casting comes on the heels of his recent successes, including the sleeper hit ‘Anyone but You’ and his chameleonic performance in Richard Linklater’s ‘Hit Man’, which was acquired by Netflix for $20 million after premiering at the Toronto Film Festival.
Paramount Pictures made the announcement about Powell’s casting during CinemaCon, the annual exhibition trade show for theater owners in Las Vegas. The studio is backing ‘The Running Man’, further solidifying Powell’s rising star status in Hollywood.
Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting project as it develops.
