George Clooney to Star in Broadway Show as Edward R. Murrow

George Clooney is set to take on the iconic role of legendary newsman Edward R. Murrow in a Broadway adaptation of the historical drama ‘Good Night, and Good Luck.’ The original film, released in 2005, was both directed and starred by Clooney, earning six Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director.

After two decades, Clooney, alongside co-screenwriter Grant Heslov, will bring the story to the stage. The production, directed by David Cromer, is scheduled to premiere next spring at a Shubert Theatre.

In the upcoming Broadway adaptation, Clooney will transition from portraying CBS News correspondent Joseph Weshba to embodying the role of Murrow himself, marking his debut on the Broadway stage. Clooney expressed his excitement, stating, ‘I am honored, after all these years, to be coming back to the stage and especially, to Broadway, the art form and the venue that every actor aspires to.’

Director David Cromer emphasized the significance of Murrow’s moral clarity in today’s media landscape, noting the immediacy and impact of early live television broadcasts that can be effectively captured on stage in front of a live audience.

The Broadway adaptation of ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’ featuring George Clooney as Edward R. Murrow promises to bring a compelling narrative to the stage, delving into the historical context of Murrow’s coverage of Senator Joseph McCarthy’s anti-communist tribunals in the 1950s.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting production as it nears its debut next spring.
