Genesee County Park and Forest staff are gearing up for the much-anticipated solar eclipse event set to take place on Monday. As the first photo of a total solar eclipse was captured almost 200 years ago, locals in Western New York will have the chance to witness this rare astronomical event.
The park has organized a range of activities for visitors from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the eclipse. The partial eclipse is expected to commence at 2:06 p.m., with totality occurring from 3:19 to 3:23 p.m., followed by the partial eclipse until 4:30 p.m.
Claudia Nusstein, the conservation education program coordinator, has recommended that visitors start at the interpretive center, where both indoor and outdoor activities will be available. These include pinhole viewers, telescopes, slide shows, clay and paper model crafting, sundial creation, corona eclipse hats, bookmarks, and chalk art. The trail around the park features six stations, leading from the center to the Raymond Road exit.
For those interested in attending, the parking fee is $10.00 per vehicle, payable in cash, and complimentary solar eclipse glasses will be provided. Additionally, areas Fleming, A, and B will host their own events. Visitors can obtain a map and directions at the gate, and staff will be on hand to provide guidance.
One of the exciting activities planned for the day is the creation of a mobile eclipse solar system using paper and cardboard materials. This promises to be a fun and educational experience for all attendees.
