‘General Hospital’ Star John York Shares Battle with Two Cancers

‘General Hospital’ star John York recently shared his battle with two types of cancer, myelodysplastic syndrome, and smoldering multiple myeloma, in an emotional interview on ‘Good Morning America.’

York, aged 65, who portrays Mac Scorpio on the popular soap opera, expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming support he has received during his health journey. Despite facing health challenges since his teenage years with ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, York’s doctors discovered the presence of the two cancers during routine check-ups.

Following his late 2022 diagnosis, York opted for aggressive treatment, including chemotherapy and finding a bone marrow donor, enabling him to resume his acting career swiftly. His positive outlook and ‘one day at a time’ philosophy have been instrumental in his recovery.

York’s family has been a pillar of strength throughout his treatment, with his son-in-law and grandson even shaving their heads in solidarity. The actor’s decision to share his story on social media has not only raised awareness but also encouraged people to join the bone marrow donor registry, potentially saving lives.

After a lengthy search, York received the news of finding a compatible bone marrow donor, a moment he described as overwhelming. The support and love from fans and the donor community have played a crucial role in his journey towards healing and resilience.
