Gas Prices in Idaho Slightly Decrease, Bringing Relief for Drivers

Gas prices in Idaho are showing a slight decrease, providing some relief for drivers in the Gem State. According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Idaho was $3.55 on Monday, which is 3 cents lower than the previous week, 23 cents lower than a month ago, and 43 cents lower than a year ago.

Nationally, the average price for a gallon of gas remained stable at $3.45 per gallon this week, showing a decrease of 16 cents from a month ago and 13 cents from a year ago.

Despite the slight drop in prices, Idaho still ranks 12th in the nation for the most expensive fuel, keeping the state out of the top 10 list.

In specific counties within Idaho, the average cost of a gallon of unleaded gasoline varies. In Bonner County, the average price is $3.67 per gallon, while in Boundary County, it is $3.50 per gallon. Prices in Kootenai County range from the $3.20s to the $3.50s per gallon.

AAA Idaho public affairs director, Matthew Conde, mentioned that the state average saw a 6-cent drop last week and another 3-cent drop this week. He anticipates that gas prices may soon stabilize for the summer, especially with the upcoming Fourth of July holiday and an expected surge in travel.

Recent weeks have seen strong refinery production helping to balance the increasing demand, which rose to 9.4 million barrels per day, up by 400,000 barrels per day from the previous week. However, issues at refineries in Corpus Christi and Wood River may disrupt this trend, according to AAA.

The West Texas Intermediate benchmark for crude oil is currently trading near $82 per barrel, showing an increase of $5 from a month ago and $12 from a year ago. This recent uptick is considered an anomaly as crude oil prices have mostly remained below the $80 mark since early May.

Here is a breakdown of gas prices in some Idaho cities as of Monday: Boise – $3.58, Franklin – $3.55, Idaho Falls – $3.33, Lewiston – $3.62, and Twin Falls – $3.56.
