Fortnite Introduces New Feature Allowing Players to Build and Profit from Lego Island Games
Epic’s popular game ‘Fortnite’ is set to introduce a new feature that allows players to build and profit from their own ‘official’ Lego Island games. The game will now enable creators to construct their own Lego Islands using Lego templates, props, consumables, and items within the Fortnite Creative mode. There are currently four different templates available to help players get started using Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) and Fortnite Creative.
Creators who opt to publish their Lego Islands and are part of the Fortnite Island Creator Program will be eligible for payouts. According to Epic and Lego, all published Lego Islands must have an ESRB rating of E10+ to be accessible to players in the United States, and a PEGI rating of 7 to be accessible to players in most of Europe. Additionally, all Lego Islands utilize Epic Games’ parental controls and safety features.
The announcement regarding the Lego Islands was made during Epic’s State of Unreal panel at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) Wednesday. This development marks the latest milestone in the longstanding partnership between Epic and Lego, following the launch of “Lego Fortnite” in December 2023. Since then, Lego has released a couple of islands, including “Lego Raft Survival” and “Lego Obby,” and has unveiled three new ones:
- Lego Prop Hunt – This island builds on popular ‘Prop Hunt’ mechanics to create zany Lego fun within the expanse of a wacky shopping mall.
- Lego Battle Arena – This island allows gamers to become the next Spinjitzu master. Players can enroll in special training at the Lego Ninjago Dojo with Lloyd and the Masters of Spinjitzu, compete against other trainees, hone their skills, and prove themselves.
- Lego Cat Island Adventure – This playful game is all about meeting and nurturing a relationship with a friendly cat on an island. Players need to complete tasks to keep their cat happy, and the cat will communicate if it is not!
Epic Games executive vice president Saxs Persson expressed excitement about the ongoing collaboration with Lego, stating, “‘Lego Fortnite’ was a big step in our collaboration with Lego — but it was never the final step. There were two more.”
