Fortnite Introduces Feature to Filter ‘Confrontational’ Emotes

Fortnite players can now breathe a sigh of relief as the popular game is introducing a new feature that allows them to hide certain ‘confrontational’ emotes. The v29.30 update, set to roll out on Tuesday, will give players the option to filter out emotes such as ‘Laugh It Up’, ‘Take the L’, ‘Whipcrack’, and ‘Make it Plantain’.

While these emotes won’t be completely hidden, they will appear as static images in the game without the accompanying dance moves or music. Players will have the choice to either see these emotes only from friends or hide them entirely from their gameplay experience.

Among the vast array of emotes available in Fortnite, this specific group of four has sparked controversy due to their often aggressive and taunting use by players. Emotes like ‘Laugh it Up’ and ‘Take the L’ are frequently used after eliminating an opponent or achieving victory, leading to complaints about toxic behavior within the game.

Epic Games, the developer behind Fortnite, has faced criticism in the past for emotes that replicate popular dance moves, resulting in legal disputes with dance creators. However, this update focusing on filtering out certain emotes seems to address concerns about the negative impact of these gestures on the gaming community.

While emotes remain a prominent feature in Fortnite, not all players appreciate their presence. This latest update by Epic Games acknowledges that some emotes can disrupt the gaming experience for certain individuals. Although players won’t be able to completely block these emotes, they now have the option to minimize their visibility and reduce potential annoyance.

As the gaming landscape continues to evolve, Fortnite’s decision to introduce this filtering feature reflects a commitment to fostering a more positive and inclusive gaming environment for all players.
