Former President Donald Trump, a longtime crypto skeptic, recently expressed his thoughts on Bitcoin during a Fox News town hall ahead of South Carolina’s primary elections. Trump, who previously criticized Central Bank Digital Currencies, acknowledged the increasing popularity of Bitcoin.

During the town hall, Fox News host Laura Ingraham questioned Trump about cryptocurrencies, referencing China’s efforts to introduce a digital currency for greater government control. In response, Trump acknowledged the growing interest in Bitcoin and suggested the need for regulation, while expressing his observation of a rising trend in Bitcoin payments.

Trump’s stance on digital currencies has evolved over time. In the past, he adamantly opposed the idea of a digital dollar, citing it as a threat to freedom. However, reports have indicated his involvement in digital assets, including owning a digital wallet and profiting from NFT sales.

Despite Trump’s shifting views, the rejection of a digital dollar remains a prevalent stance within the Republican party. Earlier, the House Financial Service Committee advanced the CBDC Anti-Surveillance Act, emphasizing concerns about government control and privacy infringement.

While some proponents of Central Bank Digital Currencies have advocated for their implementation, privacy concerns have been raised both domestically and internationally. The Bank of England, for instance, has outlined plans to develop a digital pound, with considerations for privacy protection.
