Former NBA Star Rajon Rondo Arrested on Misdemeanor Gun and Drug Charges

Former NBA star Rajon Rondo was arrested on Sunday in southern Indiana on misdemeanor gun and drug charges, according to the Indiana State Police. The 37-year-old, a two-time NBA champion, was initially stopped for a traffic violation in Jackson County. Subsequently, an investigation was launched after a report of reckless driving, leading to the discovery of a firearm, drug paraphernalia, and suspected marijuana in Rondo’s vehicle.

Rondo, a four-time All-Star, was taken to the Jackson County Jail but was released after posting bond. A juvenile who was in the vehicle at the time was released to a family member. His initial court hearing has been scheduled for February 27 in Jackson County Superior Court.

According to reports, Rondo was prohibited from carrying a firearm due to a non-contact court order issued in August. This was the second protective order issued against him, the first of which came in 2022 following allegations from a Louisville woman. The woman had requested Rondo to undergo anger management classes, counseling, and a mental health evaluation. The emergency protective order was ultimately dismissed in June 2022 after an agreement between the parties. However, another protective order was taken out in March 2023, leading to the currently binding court order in August.

Rondo, who began his high school career in Louisville and later played as a star guard with the Kentucky Wildcats, was a first-round pick of the Phoenix Suns in 2006. Over his 16-season NBA career, he secured championships with the Boston Celtics in 2008 and the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.

The Associated Press was unable to reach an attorney listed for Rondo at the time of the report.
