Foreign Tourists Embrace Expensive Dining in Japan Amid Weak Yen

Foreign tourists are taking advantage of the weak yen to indulge in pricey dishes in Japan. While locals may find the costs daunting, visitors like Orr Israeli Dayan and Omer Dayan from Israel see the prices as reasonable compared to their home country. The opening of Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai in Tokyo’s waterfront has brought attention to expensive menu items, dubbed ‘inbaun-don’ by Japanese social media users.

Despite the criticism, foreign tourists like Orr Israeli Dayan and Omer Dayan are relishing in the experience. The couple, on their honeymoon in Japan, enjoyed a seafood bowl and sushi at the facility without hesitation. Other visitors, such as Poh Meng Quek from Singapore, appreciate the opportunity to savor fresh and delicious fish at a reasonable price.

Japan’s appeal to foreign travelers is evident in the record-high number of visitors in March, reaching 3,081,600. Travel spending by foreigners during the first quarter of the year also hit a record high, with per capita spending showing a significant increase compared to pre-COVID levels.

High-priced food and products are attracting foreign visitors across Japan, with establishments like Totoya Takagi at Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai catering to the voracious appetites of tourists. Despite local criticism, the influx of foreign tourists is boosting the tourism industry and contributing to the economy.
