On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that Ford will recall 42,652 Bronco Sport and Escape vehicles in the United States due to damaged fuel injectors that could leak and start a fire. The NHTSA reported that Ford is taking proactive measures to address the issue. They will install a drain tube and upgrade the engine control software to enable fuel injector leak detection.
Previously, the NHTSA launched an inquiry into its Office of Defects Inquiry (ODI) unit after receiving 31 complaints from Bronco Sport owners who experienced a “loss of engine power accompanied by complete electrical system failure.” According to customer reports on the NHTSA’s vehicle owner questionnaires (VOQs), the issue caused a total electrical system failure and power outage while driving, as well as when the vehicle was stopped at traffic lights or stop signs.
