Foods to Avoid with Kidney Disease

While fruits and vegetables are healthy and a must-add to your diet, if you have kidney-related ailments, there are some foods that you must avoid. Kidneys play a vital role in maintaining overall health. They filter waste and excess fluids from our blood. For those with kidney issues like chronic kidney disease (CKD) or kidney stones, it is important to note what you are eating. Here are some foods you should avoid!

Foods to avoid if you have kidney disease

If you are suffering from kidney ailments, make sure to stay away from processed meats which are loaded with salts and preservatives. Uncontrolled consumption of animal protein leads to hyperfiltration, i.e. increased workload on the kidneys. This could especially affect people with reduced kidney function.

Pickles have high sodium content and should be avoided by anyone suffering from kidney ailments. You should also steer clear of bananas as they are full of potassium. Replace bananas with pineapples as they are a rich source of vitamin A and fiber and are low on potassium content. One should also stay away from sugary drinks like sodas.

If you are suffering from kidney ailments, stay away from dairy products like milk, which is high in phosphorus.

You should also avoid indulging in processed snacks, canned soups, and fast food. Maintain a healthy diet, drink water and exercise.
