Kaufman, originally from Long Island, was a longtime collaborator of renowned filmmaker Robert Rodriguez. He gained significant recognition for co-directing the Emmy-nominated documentary “Superpower” alongside actor Sean Penn. This documentary focused on the remarkable political rise of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the president of Ukraine, amidst the backdrop of the ongoing conflict with Russia.

Simpson recounted a moment when Kaufman emailed him about a 50-mile trek he and Sean Penn undertook from Lviv, Ukraine, to the Polish border, emphasizing that the documentary’s message was evolving significantly. “I’ll never forget the passion and bravery that Aaron brought to helping get Ukraine’s message to a world audience,” Simpson remarked.
