Female Prison Officer Accused of Inappropriate Relationship and Codeine Smuggling Leaves Court Barefoot

A female prison officer, Kelsey Calvert, 28, made headlines as she left court barefoot after being accused of having an ‘inappropriate relationship’ with an inmate and smuggling in codeine. The incident took place at HMP Holme House, a men’s prison in Stockton-on-Tees, where she allegedly engaged in the affair and illegal activities dating back to 2022.

During her appearance at Teesside Magistrates’ Court, Calvert faced charges of neglecting her duty as a public office holder and bringing prohibited codeine into the prison. Following the hearing, she covered her face with a black jacket to conceal her identity but notably walked out of court without wearing any shoes.

The first charge against Calvert accuses her of misconduct as a prison staff member by engaging in an inappropriate relationship with an inmate, while the second charge pertains to the unauthorized possession and conveyance of codeine into the prison premises.

Calvert did not enter pleas during the initial hearing, and the case was referred to Teesside Crown Court due to its severity. District Judge Steven Hood emphasized that the charges must be heard at the crown court, indicating the gravity of the accusations against the defendant.

The bizarre incident involving Calvert has garnered public attention and raised concerns about the conduct of prison staff members. The case is set to proceed to the crown court for further legal proceedings and potential resolution.
