FDA recalls nearly 1.9 million bottles of Fiji water in New York due to contamination concerns

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall for nearly 1.9 million bottles of water sold in New York due to concerns raised by the producer, Natural Waters of Viti Limited. The recall affects Fiji Natural Artesian Water and is linked to the presence of manganese and three bacterial genera.

The affected water, sold through online retailers like Amazon.com, is part of over 78,000 cases, each containing 24 bottles, totaling approximately 1,884,792 individual bottles. The specific production dates for the impacted water bottles are November 11, 12, 13, 24, and 25 of 2023, identifiable by the UPC code 6 32565 00004 3 and the bottle UPC code 6 32565 00001 2.

Manganese, an essential trace element, poses health risks when consumed in excess, potentially leading to brain damage, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Consumers are advised to discontinue use of the recalled water bottles and contact the appropriate channels for further guidance.
