Exciting Fourth of July Events Planned for Hawaii County

Hawaii County is gearing up to host two exciting Fourth of July events in Hilo and Kailua-Kona this year. The Department of Parks & Recreation has announced that the celebrations will take place on July 4, offering a day filled with fun activities for residents and visitors alike.

In Hilo, the festivities will begin bright and early at 7 a.m. with “A Salute to Our Veterans” 5K Run/Walk at Liliuokalani Gardens. Following the run, the “Hot Rides Expo” will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Hilo Bayfront Soccer Fields, featuring a display of vintage, classic, and futuristic vehicles. Attendees can also enjoy food trucks, keiki activities, and live performances throughout the day.

The highlight of the Hilo celebrations will be the “Hilo Bay Blast” at 8 p.m., where a professional fireworks display will light up the night sky. Spectators can expect a dazzling show featuring high-tech pyrotechnics launched from a barge in Hilo Bay, accompanied by music from the Hawaii County Band at Moʻoheau Park Bandstand.

Meanwhile, in Kailua-Kona, the Fourth of July parade will kick off at 6 p.m., followed by an “Independence Day Extravaganza” at 8 p.m. It promises to be a lively event with plenty of entertainment for all attendees.

For those planning to set off their own fireworks, please note that firecrackers can only be ignited between 1 p.m. and 9 p.m. on July 4. It is essential to have a water source on hand to prevent any potential fires.

Mayor Mitch Roth expressed his excitement for the upcoming celebrations, stating, “We are proud to be able to offer our community fun and safe activities across the island to celebrate the Fourth of July year after year. These events provide spaces for us to come together, strengthen our bonds, and create lasting memories.”

Director of Parks & Recreation, Maurice Messina, also extended an invitation to the community to join in the festivities, emphasizing the significance of honoring the nation’s independence. He thanked the various businesses, organizations, volunteers, and government agencies for their collaboration in making the events possible.

With a lineup of engaging activities and entertainment planned for both Hilo and Kailua-Kona, this year’s Fourth of July celebrations on Hawaii Island are sure to be a memorable experience for all who attend.
