Eurovision Song Contest 2024 Semi-Finals Underway in Sweden

The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 is in full swing, with the first semi-final taking place tonight in Sweden. The annual event is set to showcase a diverse range of talent from across Europe, with contestants vying for a spot in the grand final on Saturday 11 May.

Among the participants in the first semi-final are Ireland’s Bambie Thug, Ukraine’s Alyona Alyona and Jerry Heil, and the UK’s Olly Alexander. While Olly Alexander has already secured a place in the final as one of the ‘big five’ countries, Bambie Thug is hoping to impress with their electro-metal song ‘Doomsday Blue’.

Sweden, as the host country and automatic finalist, will be represented by the twin singers Marcus & Martinus with their song ‘Unforgettable’. Other strong contenders include Alyona and Heil from Ukraine with their moving anthem ‘Teresa & Maria’, and Switzerland’s Nemo with the operatic hit ‘The Code’.

The second semi-final on Thursday 9 May will feature countries such as Malta, Greece, Denmark, and Israel, adding to the excitement of the competition. Fans can expect a mix of musical styles, with a majority of the songs this year being performed in the minor key.
