Entergy Arkansas Provides Storm Update: Thousands Still Without Power

Entergy Arkansas has provided an update on the storm situation as of May 28, 2024, at noon. Currently, around 2,536 customers are still without power out of a peak of 22,700, with the majority expected to have their power restored by 10 p.m. today. Since Friday evening, a total of 44,000 customer interruptions have been resolved, but some areas in the northern part of the state may not have power until later tonight or by Wednesday, May 29.

Over 965 workers, including Entergy Arkansas vegetation crews, scouts, contractors, and external assistance, have been actively working to address the damage caused by severe weather over the weekend. The damages, primarily caused by lightning, wind, and confirmed tornadoes in rural regions with challenging terrain, have necessitated the use of specialized equipment and additional personnel such as aerial saws, track vehicles, bulldozers, and bucket trucks.

Various parts of the state, many of which are obstructed by debris and water, have experienced broken power poles, downed lines, and damage to substations and transmission structures. To enhance the system’s resilience, crews are implementing upgrades such as thicker and stronger poles, as well as concrete poles in some instances. This storm follows a series of weather events that have impacted Entergy’s service territory this spring.
