Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson to Serve as Grand Marshal for 2024 Daytona 500

The Daytona 500, one of NASCAR’s most prestigious events, is set to kick off the Cup Series season on February 18. As tradition dictates, the race will feature a lineup of notable dignitaries to add to the excitement and grandeur of the event.

Over the years, the Daytona 500 has seen a diverse array of dignitaries, ranging from politicians and industry executives to stars from the world of sports, Hollywood, and music. This year, the honor of grand marshal falls to none other than Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, adding to the star-studded list of past dignitaries.

Looking back at previous iterations of the race, it’s evident that NASCAR has consistently attracted big names to play key roles in the event. In 2023, actor Tiffany Haddish served as the honorary starter, while singer-songwriter Breland delivered a memorable rendition of the national anthem. The year before, NFL Hall of Famer Charles Woodson assumed the grand marshal duties, accompanied by country singer Trace Adkins who performed the national anthem.

Further back, in 2021, the grand marshal title was held by none other than performer and Trackhouse Racing co-owner Pitbull, with professional wrestler Sasha Banks as the honorary starter. The star power continued in 2020, with President Donald Trump serving as the grand marshal and Dale Earnhardt Jr. as the honorary starter, alongside professional wrestler Sheamus.

Other notable dignitaries from previous years include Houston Texans defender JJ Watt, New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman, and Hollywood stars such as Owen Wilson, Charlize Theron, and Keanu Reeves. The list goes on to feature actors, athletes, and musicians who have graced the Daytona 500 with their presence, adding to the event’s allure and excitement.
