Dutch Economy Faces Challenges in April

The economic climate in the Netherlands took a hit in April as compared to the previous month, according to the latest data from the CBS Business Cycle Tracer. Statistics Netherlands (CBS) revealed that 10 out of the 13 indicators in the Business Cycle Tracer for April were below their long-term trend.

The CBS Business Cycle Tracer serves as a crucial tool for monitoring the Dutch economy, offering a comprehensive macroeconomic overview of the recent month or quarter based on CBS data. While this snapshot may vary across different households, businesses, or regions, it provides valuable insights into the economic landscape.

The Business Cycle Tracer indicator, an unweighted average of indicators excluding GDP, illustrates the economic performance over time. In January 2020, the cycle stood at 0.38, gradually declining to -0.88 in December 2023. The most recent data for April 2024 indicates a further decrease to -0.88, emphasizing the ongoing economic challenges faced by the country.
