Dublin-based Credit Union Faces Crisis After Serious Security Incident

Half a million customers of a Dublin-based credit union are facing a crisis as they are unable to access their money following a ‘serious security incident’ that occurred on Sunday. Patelco Credit Union, which operates across the state, informed its customers about the shutdown of several banking systems due to the incident.

In an email to consumers, Erin Mendez, the President and CEO of Patelco, stated, ‘We are writing to let you know that on June 29, we experienced a serious security incident. This required us to shut down some of our day-to-day banking systems so that we can remediate the issue and contain the impact, including online banking, our mobile App, and our call center.’

The credit union has been collaborating with cybersecurity teams since Saturday to address the issue and restore online services. However, the timeline for resolving the problem remains uncertain. Patelco initially informed customers about the outage on Saturday morning.

Patelco has 33 branches in the Bay Area and has assured customers that they will be operational on Monday to assist as much as possible during regular business hours. The company also communicated through social media that customers can access cash withdrawals and deposits at specific ATMs.

As the situation unfolds, Patelco customers are urged to stay patient and understanding while the credit union works to resolve the security incident that has disrupted their banking services.
