Dr. Jennifer Ashton to Leave ABC News and Launch Women’s Wellness Company

Dr. Jennifer Ashton, the co-host of GMA3 and chief medical correspondent at ABC News, is set to depart from the network in June to embark on a new venture. Ashton will be launching her women’s wellness company, Ajenda, where she will serve as the founder and CEO.

The decision to leave ABC News comes as Ashton aims to focus on addressing the challenges related to menopause health and weight management through her new business. Ajenda, which was introduced with a newsletter in March, is dedicated to providing solutions in these critical areas that are increasingly gaining attention in society, culture, media, medicine, and science.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ashton expressed her belief in the importance of being the right messenger for crucial health messages, especially in the current landscape where women’s health, weight management, and menopause issues are in the spotlight like never before. She emphasized her commitment to devoting her full attention and expertise to these pressing matters, drawing on the skills and experience she has acquired during her 13-year tenure at the leading network.

Despite her departure, Ashton received support from her colleagues at ABC, including network president Kim Godwin and Debra OConnell, who oversees ABC’s news and networks division. Acknowledging Ashton’s significant contributions to ABC News, OConnell praised her as one of the foremost medical journalists of our time and referred to her as ‘America’s favorite doctor.’

Reflecting on the encouragement she received from ABC executives, Ashton highlighted their understanding of her decision and their assurance of continued support as she transitions to her new endeavor. She noted the rarity of such unwavering backing in the industry, underscoring the respect and goodwill she has garnered during her time at ABC.

As Ashton prepares to bid farewell to ABC News and embrace the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead with Ajenda, her departure marks a new chapter in her career dedicated to empowering women and promoting holistic wellness.
