Downtown Columbia to Celebrate Holiday Spirit with Festive Events

The holiday spirit is set to shine brightly in downtown Columbia this Saturday, as The District gears up for a festive evening filled with activities that promise to delight residents and visitors alike. The highlight of the evening will be the much-anticipated holiday lighting event, which will illuminate the area with dazzling decorations and festive cheer.

Starting at 7 p.m., participants can gather at various locations to witness the synchronized illumination of iconic holiday decor pieces throughout The District. This year, attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite lighting display, with four designated spots serving as viewing areas: The Columns located at 705 E. Walnut, Serendipity Salon and Gallery at 1020 E. Walnut, Wishtree Courtyard at 1023 E. Walnut, and Alley A. Each location will offer a unique perspective on the holiday lights, making for an exciting evening of exploration.

The festivities kick off earlier in the day with The District’s annual Holiday Shop Hop, running from 2 to 5 p.m. This event invites shoppers to explore downtown businesses, where they can enjoy special holiday promotions and refreshments. It’s a wonderful opportunity to support local merchants while finding unique gifts for loved ones.

In addition to the Shop Hop, attendees can partake in the Wassail Stroll, a delightful experience where participants can sample the traditional holiday beverage of wassail at various participating businesses. This festive crawl allows guests to savor seasonal flavors and cast their votes for their favorite wassail, adding a fun twist to the holiday celebrations.

Another exciting addition to the day’s events is the horse-drawn carriage rides, which will commence at 4 p.m. This charming tradition has become a beloved feature of the holiday season in downtown Columbia. While the carriage rides are free, guests are encouraged to reserve their tickets in advance, as they are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested individuals can visit the Wishtree Courtyard for more information and to secure their spots.

The District’s holiday events are designed to foster community spirit and bring people together during this festive season. Whether you’re looking to enjoy the beautiful holiday lights, indulge in seasonal treats, or simply soak in the joyful atmosphere, this Saturday promises to be a memorable day for all.
