DOOM: The Dark Ages Set to Be Unveiled at Xbox Games Showcase

Insider Gaming has exclusive information that the highly anticipated next game in the DOOM franchise is set to be unveiled during this year’s Xbox Games Showcase on June 9. The game, previously known under the codename ‘Year Zero’, is now expected to be officially titled ‘DOOM: The Dark Ages’ after being in development for a minimum of four years.

Last year, early details of the upcoming DOOM game were leaked, hinting at a ‘medieval inspired doom world’. While these details were scarce, the names ‘year zero’, ‘the dark ages’, and ‘medieval inspired’ suggest a potential shift in the series towards a medieval setting. Could this be a prequel exploring the Doomslayer’s life during medieval times?

Rumors gained momentum earlier this year following Bethesda’s registration of the trademark ‘IDKFA’, a famous cheat code in the DOOM series. Speculation was further fueled by The Verge’s Tom Warren hinting at DOOM’s presence at the Xbox Games Showcase, a rumor that has now been independently confirmed.

The DOOM franchise has been a monumental success for Xbox and ID Software, with a 2020 LinkedIn post by an ID Software employee claiming the game generated over $450 million in revenue.
