Dolly Parton hints at potential ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ reboot

A potential reboot of the popular television series ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ could be in the works, as revealed by producer Dolly Parton. Parton, recognized primarily as a country music icon, shared that there are discussions about bringing back and revitalizing the beloved show.

During the 1990s, Dolly Parton’s production company, Sandollar Television, played a significant role in the original series’ production, which starred Sarah Michelle Gellar. Sandollar Productions, co-founded by Parton and her former manager, Sandy Gallin, was involved in producing all seven seasons of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ and its spinoff ‘Angel’.

Parton mentioned to Business Insider that efforts are underway for the potential revival, although specific details about the project’s contributors were not disclosed. The original ‘Buffy’ movie was also co-produced by Parton’s Sandollar Productions in collaboration with Kuzui Enterprises, the production company of the movie’s director, Fran Rubel Kuzui, and her husband Kaz Kuzui. Later, these production companies partnered with ‘Buffy’ creator Joss Whedon’s Mutant Enemy Productions and 20th Century Fox Television for the popular TV series.

Reportedly, there have been previous attempts to reboot ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer,’ including a 2009 movie reboot and a 2018 proposal for a reboot with a Black lead, co-created by Joss Whedon and screenwriter Monica Owusu-Breen. However, both attempts faced criticism and backlash from fans, with the latter sparking controversy over the potential casting of a Black actor as Buffy.

The future of an on-screen reboot for ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ remains uncertain, but the recent comments from Dolly Parton have reignited discussions about the beloved show’s potential return to television screens.
