Love Storiyaan, a new unscripted series released by Dharmatic Entertainment on Valentine’s Day, explores the intersection of personal and political narratives in romance. The series, an anthology of six short films, is a creation of Somen Mishra, the Head of Development at Dharma Productions and Dharmatic Entertainment – Fiction. Drawing inspiration from stories featured on the popular Instagram handle #IndiaLoveProject by Priya Ramani, Niloufer Venkatraman, and Samar Halarnkar, Love Storiyaan delves into diverse narratives that challenge societal constructs.
The term ‘Love Storiyaan’ first gained attention in the popular romantic song ‘Kesariya’ from Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva, causing a stir due to its Hinglish infusion. The series’ title carries a sense of rebellion, reflecting the underlying theme of love as a form of resistance against societal norms. The first short film, ‘An Unsuitable Girl,’ directed by Hardik Mehta, takes a light-hearted approach to its narrative, subverting traditional titles like Karan Johar’s ‘An Unsuitable Boy’ and Vikram Seth’s ‘A Suitable Boy.’
Love Storiyaan serves as a reminder that love and revolution are intertwined, challenging the conventional perception of romance. The series aims to provoke thought and discomfort, emphasizing the idea that romance inherently involves rebellion against societal constraints.
