A Derbyshire grandad has broken his 105th world record by balancing a 7ft 6in (2.3m) Easter bonnet on his head. John Evans, 77, from Ilkeston, spent over a week creating the £300 bonnet that weighs about 19kg (42lbs). The new world record is for the largest Easter bonnet balanced on the head for over 10 seconds. Mr. Evans plans to reperform his stunt for an Easter fun day on 6 April at the care home where his wife, who has dementia, lives.
Mr. Evans, known for balancing a Mini on his head, is affiliated with Record Holders Republic, an online registry of world records. He mentioned that 50 of his records have been acknowledged by Guinness. Despite his age and health challenges, including diabetes and a prosthetic eye, Mr. Evans continues to pursue his passion, aiming to inspire others of his age.
He expressed his excitement about bringing joy to his wife, the care home staff, and families at the upcoming event, stating, ‘My wife will love it, the staff will love it, and the families will too. I’ll be the star man!’
Mr. Evans also revealed that children will be attending the fun day, wearing their own Easter bonnets. He emphasized his desire to create something special for Easter and his birthday, which coincides with Easter Sunday.
