Delta and American Express Announce New Perks and Higher Annual Fees for Credit Cards

Delta and American Express have announced new perks for their credit cards, but they come with higher annual fees. The changes are set to take effect on May 1, and customers are left wondering if the new benefits are worth the increased cost.

Currently, Delta offers three tiers of personal and business credit cards: Gold, Platinum, and Reserve. The new annual fees will be as follows: Delta Gold – $150 (previously $99), Delta Platinum – $350 (previously $250), and Delta Reserve – $650 (previously $550).

So, what are the new benefits that come with these higher fees? Delta Gold cardholders will now receive a $100 annual credit for Delta Stays and can earn a $200 Delta flight credit after spending $10,000 annually. Moving up to the Delta Platinum cards, cardholders can enjoy a bundle of credits totaling nearly $400 per year, including a $120 Resy credit, $120 rideshare credit, and $150 Delta Stays credit. Meanwhile, Delta Reserve cardholders will receive a total of $560 in annual statement rebates, with a $240 Resy credit, $120 rideshare credit, and $200 Delta Stays credit.

Dwight James, Delta’s senior vice president of customer engagement and loyalty, expressed that the new benefits aim to help members on their journey to status and provide tangible benefits both in the air and on the ground. The cards also come with annual companion certificates that act as a BOGO ticket, now valid to new destinations including Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Furthermore, in addition to the new perks, Delta’s cards are offering limited-time welcome offers of up to 110,000 bonus miles after meeting minimum spending requirements.

It’s important to note that the Resy and rideshare credits are use-it-or-lose-it benefits, distributed in monthly increments. The cards also come with expanded Companion Certificates and new statement credits.

Overall, while the new benefits offer added value for cardholders, the higher annual fees may make some customers think twice about whether the perks are worth the cost.
