The company recently began sending out notifications to customers, informing them that a Dell portal containing customer information related to purchases had been breached.

According to a data breach notification shared with BleepingComputer, Dell is currently investigating the incident and believes that the risk to customers is minimal due to the limited types of information accessed. The compromised data includes names, physical addresses, Dell hardware and order details such as service tags, item descriptions, order dates, and warranty information. However, Dell assures customers that financial or payment information, email addresses, and telephone numbers were not part of the stolen data.

In response to the breach, Dell is collaborating with law enforcement agencies and a third-party forensics firm to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter. The company emphasized that they are taking the necessary steps to address the situation and protect customer data.

Following the breach, a threat actor known as Menelik reportedly attempted to sell the stolen Dell database on a hacking forum. The individual claimed to have obtained data from approximately 49 million customers, sparking concerns about the potential misuse of the compromised information.

When contacted for further details about the breach and its impact, Dell declined to provide specific information, citing an ongoing investigation. The incident underscores the ongoing threats posed by cybercriminals and the importance of robust cybersecurity measures to safeguard sensitive customer data.
