Samoa has seen a decrease in dengue fever cases since the beginning of May, although there has been a rise in influenza cases. The Ministry of Health in Samoa declared a dengue outbreak on April 19th. Since then, the public has been urged to eliminate stagnant water sources, which serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes, wear protective clothing to prevent mosquito bites, and use insect repellents.
Dr. Alec Ekeroma, the Director-General of Health, mentioned in an interview with RNZ Pacific’s Eleisha Foon that if the downward trend in dengue cases continues, the outbreak will be officially declared over on Friday.
As efforts to combat dengue fever continue, it is crucial for the public to remain vigilant and follow the Ministry of Health’s recommendations to prevent the spread of mosquito-borne diseases in Samoa.
