Cutting Back on Refined Carbs Can Aid in Battle Against Belly Fat, Experts Say

Losing weight can be a challenging journey, but experts claim that there is a simple way to kickstart the process and achieve rapid results. By giving up a certain type of food that many Americans are accustomed to, individuals can effectively shed unwanted belly fat and feel better in just a matter of days.

The catch, however, lies in the fact that this particular food type is often a staple in the hectic lives of many, due to the fast-paced schedules that leave little time for home-cooked meals. Nevertheless, making the effort to reduce consumption of this ‘flab fuel,’ as suggested by weight loss professionals, and replacing it with healthier alternatives can yield remarkable results, especially in the stubborn belly area where fat tends to accumulate and linger.

According to Lucy Jones, a dietician and chief clinical officer at Oviva, a weight management provider in the United Kingdom, cutting back on refined carbs can significantly aid in the battle against belly fat. Studies such as the Framlingham Heart Study have shown that reducing sugar and refined carb intake, and opting for wholegrain foods instead, can lead to a reduction in abdominal fat. This dietary change is particularly crucial, considering the detrimental impact of stomach fat on internal organs and its association with increased risks of heart problems and diabetes.

This means making simple swaps, such as choosing whole wheat pasta and dark sourdough bread over regular spaghetti and white rolls. While these alternatives are not only healthier, they can also contribute to the weight loss process. Furthermore, studies, like the one published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, have demonstrated that individuals consuming wholegrain foods were able to lose ‘significantly more’ abdominal fat compared to those consuming refined carbs.
