Concerns raised over Atos’ ability to deliver essential services for Paris 2024 Olympics

The Paris 2024 Olympics are fast approaching, but concerns have been raised about the potential impact of the internal problems faced by Atos, the French IT services group responsible for providing essential services to the Games. Despite Atos’ struggle and the ongoing process of being sold, Tony Estanguet, the head of the Paris 2024 organising committee, has expressed full confidence in Atos’ ability to deliver.

Atos, a long-standing partner of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) since 2002, is tasked with managing 300,000 accreditations and plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the Games. However, the company’s financial woes and unsuccessful attempts to sell off parts of its heavily indebted group have raised concerns about its ability to fulfill its obligations.

Despite these challenges, Paris Olympics organisers have reassured the public that the Games will not be affected by Atos’ internal turmoil. The IOC has also expressed its confidence in Atos, emphasizing the company’s unique expertise and its commitment to honoring its contract with the IOC and Paris 2024.

As part of the preparations, a press visit to the Games’ Technical Operations Centre, managed by Atos, has been announced for the end of March. Atos is responsible for the real-time collection and delivery of competition results, as well as the integration of various technology partners, including Orange, Intel, Cisco, Omega, and Panasonic. The seamless coordination of these technology partners is essential for the successful execution of the Games.

Atos has assured that a dedicated team of around 300 employees will be working tirelessly, 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the duration of the Games. Additionally, measures are being taken to ensure the security of the Games’ information systems, with Atos’ unit, Eviden, collaborating with the French National Agency for Cyber Security (ANSSI) to prevent potential cyber attacks.

Despite the challenges faced by Atos, the Paris 2024 organising committee and the IOC remain optimistic about the successful delivery of the Games. With the reassurances from Atos and the ongoing preparations, the focus now shifts to ensuring a memorable and seamless Olympic experience for athletes and spectators alike.
