Chinese Tech Giants Make Strong Comeback at CES 2024

Chinese tech giants Alibaba and ByteDance have made a strong comeback at the CES tech show in Las Vegas, reflecting China’s renewed presence in the global consumer electronics arena. The event, which kicked off on January 7, 2024, has witnessed a significant surge in the number of Chinese exhibitors, with over 1,115 companies from China registered, marking a remarkable 126% increase from the previous year.

Notably, prominent names such as ByteDance and Alibaba.com have demonstrated their commitment to international expansion by participating in the event through their US offices. This resurgence of Chinese companies at CES signifies a shift from the challenges faced during the Covid-19 pandemic, indicating a strong push for consumer and enterprise technology.

Brian Comiskey, the director of consumer programmes at the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), expressed optimism about the return of major Chinese exhibitors, emphasizing their potential to address significant industry challenges. This resurgence marks a notable contrast to the previous year when travel restrictions hindered the participation of many Chinese companies.

John Kelley, vice-president and show director for CES at the CTA, highlighted the substantial growth of smaller Chinese companies at the event, indicating a positive trajectory towards pre-Covid levels. The show has attracted around 4,000 exhibitors, with an expected attendance of 130,000, underscoring the renewed enthusiasm and participation in the global tech showcase.

The prevailing trend at CES 2024 revolves around artificial intelligence (AI), which has gained prominence following the impact of ChatGPT. Many companies are showcasing their integration of AI technology into their products, signifying the growing influence of AI in consumer electronics.
