Chattanooga Announces Resumption of Nonstop Flights to LaGuardia

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – In a significant development for air travel in the region, Chattanooga City Mayor Tim Kelly, alongside the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport, has announced the resumption of nonstop flights from Chattanooga Airport (CHA) to LaGuardia International Airport (LGA) in New York City. The flights are set to commence on Monday, October 7, 2024, offering travelers a convenient morning departure from Chattanooga and an evening return.

This restoration of service marks a pivotal moment for the city, especially since these flights were halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Mayor Kelly has emphasized the importance of this route, recognizing it as a critical factor for economic development and enhancing access to the diverse cultural and tourism opportunities that New York City presents.

“Resuming air service to LaGuardia has been a high priority for my administration since coming into office, because of its key impact on economic development and the access to all the culture and tourism New York City has to offer,” said Mayor Kelly. He expressed his gratitude towards Delta Airlines for their partnership and acknowledged the efforts of April Cameron and her team at the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport Authority (CMAA) for their commitment to restoring this vital service.

The flights will utilize a CRJ-900 aircraft, designed to accommodate a total of 76 passengers. This configuration includes 12 first-class seats, 20 Delta Comfort+ seats, and 44 main cabin seats, providing a range of options for travelers.

According to Mayor Kelly, New York has consistently been the most requested destination by the local business community, highlighting the strategic importance of this route. “Delta has always been a tremendous partner, and we are deeply grateful for their continued confidence in our city and region,” he added. The new flight schedules are designed to be accommodating for both business and leisure travelers.

The resumption of these flights is expected to not only bolster local tourism but also enhance business connections between Chattanooga and one of the largest metropolitan areas in the United States. As the travel industry continues to recover from the impacts of the pandemic, this development is seen as a positive step towards revitalizing air travel and fostering economic growth in the region.

Local officials and residents alike are anticipating the benefits that the reinstated service will bring, as it opens up new opportunities for travel and connectivity. The return of nonstop flights to LaGuardia is a significant milestone for Chattanooga, reinforcing its position as a growing hub for both business and tourism.
