Channel 5 is set to premiere a new three-part docuseries, Andes Plane Crash, on January 9. The series recounts the harrowing tale of the Uruguayan rugby team’s plane crash in the Andes Mountains in 1972, where only 16 out of 45 passengers survived and were left stranded in one of the world’s most unforgiving environments.

The survivors, including Nando Parrado, Roy Harley, Coche Inciarte, Eduardo Strauch, and Fito Strauch, will share their testimonies in the series, offering a unique insight into their extraordinary journey of survival against all odds.

Produced by ITN, the documentary aims to provide a comprehensive portrayal of the events, featuring interviews with not only the survivors but also family members who anxiously awaited news of their loved ones. The series is scheduled to air at 10 p.m. on Channel 5 and will be available on My5.

Eduardo Strauch, one of the survivors, praised the series as a ‘fantastic artwork’ that deeply moved him. Oliver Price, the producer and director at ITN, emphasized the unparalleled nature of the survivors’ firsthand accounts, offering a profound understanding of their experiences and the critical decisions they had to make to endure.

Adrian Padmore, the commissioning editor at Channel 5, lauded the series as an incredible retelling of a story marked by human sacrifice and unwavering determination. He described the survivors’ account as emotional, terrifying, and life-affirming, encapsulating the most profound moral decisions faced by individuals.
