Celtics point guard Jrue Holiday has been ruled out for the upcoming game against the Atlanta Hawks due to an elbow sprain. This comes after he missed the last game against the Memphis Grizzlies and struggled in the game prior against the Lakers.
Holiday, who has only missed four games this season, has been a key player for the Celtics, averaging 13.1 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.6 assists with a 42.3 percent three-point shooting in his first season with the team.
The injury doesn’t come as a surprise as Holiday has been dealing with the same ailment for a few games now. He previously missed a game against the Spurs with a right elbow sprain and also sat out the last matchup against the Hawks with a sprained right ankle, which the Celtics won 113-103.
With Holiday out, Sam Hauser is expected to take the starting position alongside Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and Kristaps Porzingis. Hauser, who has started in five games, has averaged 7.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists. Meanwhile, Celtics guard Payton Pritchard is likely to see increased minutes in the upcoming game as well.
The Celtics, currently standing at 38-12 on the season, will need to adjust their lineup and strategy in the absence of Holiday as they face the Atlanta Hawks.
