Modern Warfare 3 players have expressed dissatisfaction with one of Call of Duty’s most iconic maps, claiming that it has become too ‘campy’ and no longer retains its original feel.
Over the years, numerous Call of Duty fans have urged the game to introduce extensive throwback map packs, highlighting a plethora of iconic maps that would be suitable for a rework or modern update in newer releases.
When Modern Warfare 3 was announced, these calls were to some extent answered. Instead of debuting with a host of new maps, MW3 featured maps from the original Modern Warfare 2 released in 2009, such as Rust, Skidrow, Terminal, Highrise, and Quarry.
Initially, this decision was well-received by players, as they were able to revisit these beloved maps in a new game. However, in recent weeks, sentiments have shifted, with some players expressing boredom with one of CoD’s most iconic settings.
Players have voiced their concerns about Terminal, stating that it feels more ‘campy’ than it did in the past. One frustrated player remarked, ‘Were people this campy on Terminal 15 years ago? I just cannot play aggressive on this map without dying to a sniper in baggage claim or to a prone guy with a light machine gun sitting between suitcases.’
Another player lamented, ‘This map plays nothing like the OG MW2 and MW3. If I see it being voted for, I jump out. I hate it, used to love it back in the day.’
Concerns have also been raised about the map’s design, with one player adding, ‘Imo it’s not a great map to play these days. It looks like there are only 2 ways to pass through the center even though there’s stairs in the middle going into the small building.’
Addressing the issue of campy gameplay, another player pointed out, ‘Spawns I don’t think were nearly as sticky in the original map as they are in this game. That coupled with higher TTK and aim assist on snipers calls for a campy game.’
Furthermore, some players argued that the powerful but slower snipers are a major issue, as they do not encourage constant movement like the Intervention from MW2 did.
While changes to snipers may occur during weapon balancing, it is unlikely that Terminal will be removed despite some players’ requests. Additionally, there are plenty of players who prefer a more camping-oriented style of play.
