With a combined experience of over 27 years at the studio, both Collin and William have contributed to numerous titles in the Call of Duty franchise, earning a reputation for their expertise in audio design.

The Adaptive Battlefield: Listen and Locate

The audio team has taken a meticulous approach to redesigning sound effects for every weapon in Black Ops 6. This includes not just the firing sounds but also the reload sounds, ensuring that each audio element is distinct and purposeful. Collin emphasizes that the goal is to create an adaptive battlefield, which provides players with the necessary information while minimizing distractions from extraneous noise.

One of the key focuses of the audio design is on distant gunfire. Players will receive critical information regarding the direction, distance, and threat level of enemy fire. Project Acoustics: Taking Spatial Reverb to the Next Level

William Cornell plays a pivotal role in ensuring that the sound design choices made by Collin are executed flawlessly. In collaboration with Microsoft’s Project Acoustics, the audio team is pushing the boundaries of spatial awareness. Factors such as material composition, room size and shape, and the path sound waves travel are meticulously calculated to enhance the realism of the audio experience.

William notes, “Our goal is to make sure that players feel the environment around them through sound. We want every shot fired and every movement made to resonate within the game world, creating an immersive atmosphere that pulls players deeper into the action.”

A Focus on Environmental Audio

The team at Treyarch is not only focusing on the sounds of weapons and explosions but is also dedicated to enriching the environmental audio.
