The Bronson Vikings secured their 26th consecutive district championship in team wrestling by defeating the Union City Chargers with a score of 40-20. The intense showdown took place at the M.H.S.A.A. Districts hosted by Bronson, where the packed house witnessed a thrilling battle between these bitter arch rivals.
Both teams, ranked in the top five in the State of Michigan throughout the season, displayed remarkable prowess on the wrestling mat. The Vikings’ victory served as a redemption for their earlier 37-34 loss to Union City in the regular season, a defeat that had propelled the Chargers to the Big 8 championship.
The match commenced at 165 pounds, with Bronson gaining an early advantage by clinching victories in the first five matches. Layne Knisely secured a pin at 165, followed by Carson Norton’s decision win at 175, Conner Harvey’s major decision at 190, Kestin Goodman’s decision win at 215, and Jacob Britten’s pin at 285, propelling Bronson to a commanding 22-0 lead. This dominant start forced the Chargers to play catch up for the remainder of the night.
Additional triumphs for Bronson were achieved by Aiden Fill at 113, Gabe Erwin at 150, and Mason Lindsey at 157. Meanwhile, the Chargers managed to secure pins from Blayne Crance at 106 and Riley Smith at 120. Union City’s Logan Mears, Alex Boyer, and Kelub Miller secured wins on decisions at 126, 132, and 138 respectively.
On a different front, Quincy’s journey to Eaton Rapids for the MHSAA Division Three Team Wrestling Districts culminated in a defeat against the host Greyhounds, with a final score of 57-22.
