The 14th annual Guild of Music Supervisors Awards is approaching, and the nominations have been announced. Leading the pack is the film ‘Barbie,’ which has secured three nominations, including two in the best song for film category for “What Was I Made For?” and “I’m Just Ken.” The event is set to take place in-person and virtually at Los Angeles’ Wiltern Theatre on Sunday, March 3.
Barbie’s nominations include best music supervision for film budgeted over $25 million and two nods for best song written and/or recorded for a film. The film has garnered recognition for Billie Eilish and Finneas’ “What Was I Made For?” and Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt’s “I’m Just Ken,” performed by Ryan Gosling.
Among the music supervisors, Mike Ladman and Mara Techam stand out with five nominations each. Their work in advertising includes collaborations with brands like Levis, The New York Times, Hennessy, and others.
The nominations are spread across different categories based on the film’s budget. For films budgeted over $25 million, ‘Barbie’ competes with other notable films such as “The Holdovers,” “My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3,” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.”
In the category for films budgeted $25 million and under, other contenders include “The Iron Claw,” “Jesus Revolution,” and “Flamin’ Hot.” The nominations also recognize films budgeted $10 million and under, as well as non-theatrically released films.
