Algerian Football Federation Appoints Vladimir Petkovic as New National Team Coach

The Algerian Football Federation has officially appointed Vladimir Petkovic as the new national team coach, putting an end to the speculations linking Super Eagles boss Jose Peseiro to the position.

Following Algeria’s disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, which led to their exit in the group stage, Djamel Belmadi parted ways with the team. This sparked talks linking former Super Eagles boss Peseiro to the Algerian job, as he had led Nigeria to a second-place finish. However, the Algerian FA has now announced the appointment of Petkovic, who will take charge of the team in the coming months to stabilize the situation after their poor performances at the last two AFCONs.

On the other hand, the Nigeria Football Federation has not yet confirmed a new coach for the Super Eagles. Petkovic’s appointment means that Peseiro has one less suitor, and the NFF may need to act swiftly if they want to retain Peseiro as coach. The former Venezuela manager has gained the trust of Nigerian fans after a strong performance at the AFCON, and the NFF may have to consider increasing Peseiro’s wages before he agrees to a new deal.

Do you think Peseiro is the right man for the Super Eagles job?
