Alarming Increase in Dengue Cases Across the Americas

In the latest Situation Report released by the Pan American Health Organization, concerning the Dengue Epidemiological Situation in the Region of the Americas for Epidemiological Week 13, 2024, alarming statistics have been revealed.

Between epidemiological weeks 1 and 13 of 2024, a staggering total of 4,820,955 suspected cases of dengue have been reported. This has resulted in a cumulative incidence rate of 511 per 100,000 population. The data shows a significant increase of 260% compared to the same period in 2023 and a staggering 448% increase compared to the average of the last 5 years.

The primary country affected by this outbreak is Brazil, with several other countries in the region also reporting cases. These include Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, French Guiana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guatemala, Martinique, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Saint Barthélemy, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Martin, Suriname, the United States of America, and Uruguay.

The report highlights the concerning trend of suspected dengue cases as of Epidemiological Week 13, showcasing the severity of the situation in the region.
