Akuma Joins Street Fighter 6 Roster

Street Fighter 6 is set to introduce one of the most iconic fighters in the franchise, Akuma, as part of its Year 1 character offerings. Akuma, known for his Satsui no Hado mastery, first appeared in 1994’s Super Street Fighter II Turbo and is now making his way to Street Fighter 6 this week.

In a recent interview with Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama, the challenges of balancing Akuma were discussed. Nakayama highlighted Akuma’s powerful moves and varied approaches, emphasizing that players will need skill to consistently succeed with him. To address balance, Akuma has been equipped with potent techniques while having lower vitality.

While Year 1 of Street Fighter 6 has seen the addition of newer characters, the inclusion of Akuma, a character dating back to the Street Fighter II series, adds depth to the roster. Nakayama mentioned that iconic characters like Akuma contribute to making the game accessible to players of all levels of experience, from long-time fans to newcomers.

Regarding Akuma’s extreme power within the game’s universe, Nakayama shared that incorporating him into the storyline was not overly challenging. He likened Akuma to Ryu, describing him as an enigmatic character whose presence enriches the narrative, particularly through the World Tour mode.

As the release of Akuma approaches, fans of the Street Fighter series can look forward to experiencing the gameplay dynamics and narrative depth that this legendary character brings to Street Fighter 6.
