Airbus and Spirit AeroSystems have been in discussions regarding the potential acquisition of a plant in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where Spirit manufactures wings for the A220 aircraft. However, industry sources indicate that a deal is unlikely to materialize in the near future.
While an Airbus spokesperson declined to comment on the merger and acquisition speculation, a representative from Spirit mentioned ongoing contractual price negotiations with Airbus, emphasizing the value of their partnership.
These developments come amidst recent news about Boeing delaying its plans for a production ramp-up, as well as reports of Boeing being in talks to acquire Spirit AeroSystems, which has resulted in a surge in Spirit’s shares.
Despite the market fluctuations and ongoing discussions within the aerospace industry, Airbus remains active, recently securing 155 commitments for helicopter orders at a trade show. Moreover, the company received an order from Niagara Helicopters and entered into an in-service contract with ACHI.
Meanwhile, Emirates Airlines’ president has expressed doubts about Boeing’s ability to deliver aircraft by the end of 2025, while also indicating a reluctance to purchase Rolls-Royce engines until their functionality is confirmed.
As the aerospace sector continues to navigate various challenges and opportunities, with companies like Lufthansa dismantling former chancellor jets and Ryanair adjusting its summer schedules due to Boeing’s delivery delays, the industry remains dynamic and subject to ongoing developments.
