Alameda County health officials have issued a warning after a possible measles exposure at Sons of Liberty Alehouse in San Leandro on March 9. The exposure occurred from 4:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and anyone who was present during that time may have been exposed to measles.
The warning advises specific groups, including infants 11 months of age or younger, those not vaccinated for measles, individuals unsure of their vaccination status, pregnant women, immunocompromised individuals, healthcare workers, and childcare providers, to contact their healthcare provider and the Alameda County Public Health Department if they have symptoms or meet the outlined criteria.
Measles symptoms can appear within seven to 21 days after exposure and include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a rash lasting up to a week. Complications such as diarrhea, middle ear infection, and pneumonia can also develop.
Health officials emphasize that measles is highly contagious and can be transmitted through direct contact with infectious droplets or airborne spread. They warn that one infected person can potentially infect nine out of 10 unvaccinated individuals who come into close contact.
