Five-star recruit Liam McNeeley has made the decision to decommit from Indiana, requesting a release from his letter of intent, sources confirmed to ESPN. This comes shortly after the announcement of coach Mike Woodson’s return for the 2024-25 season.
Originally committing to the Hoosiers over Kansas in October, McNeeley, a 6-foot-8 small forward from Texas, had also considered the Longhorns until the final stages of his recruitment. He expressed his appreciation for Indiana’s consistent and unwavering support throughout the process, stating, ‘Indiana has been recruiting me the longest, and they have been the most consistent. They have never wavered during the process. That has meant a lot to me.’
McNeeley, ranked No. 11 in the ESPN 100 for 2024, showcased his talent by averaging 16.8 points and 5.1 rebounds in 17 games on the Nike EYBL circuit last spring and summer, with a 37.5% shooting accuracy from 3-point range. Additionally, in 11 EYBL Scholastic games during the high school season, he averaged 12.7 points and boasted an impressive 49.1% shooting from behind the arc. His exceptional performance led to his inclusion in the Naismith Trophy Boys’ High School All-America third team, and he is set to participate in the McDonald’s All-American Game on April 2.
McNeeley’s decommitment leaves Indiana without any recruits in its 2024 class. With two seniors on the current roster, Xavier Johnson and Anthony Walker, the team faces potential attrition through the NBA draft or transfer portal. Notably, sophomore center Kel’el Ware is a projected first-round pick in June’s draft. The news of McNeeley’s decommitment was first reported by 247 Sports.
As the basketball landscape continues to evolve, the impact of McNeeley’s decision on both Indiana and his future in collegiate sports remains to be seen.
