Discord Introduces New Feature: Discord Quests

Discord is introducing a new feature called Discord Quests, which will reward users for streaming games to their friends. This new initiative is aimed at helping developers bring their ideas to life and make a successful business out of it. Similar to Twitch drops, Discord Quests will offer exclusive rewards to players who join a street team for various games.

According to Discord, the feature will show up in the app for ‘some players’ and will alert their friends when they accept a quest. However, the post does not specify which games will have quests, but it mentions that developers and publishers who partner with Discord will have the tools to create them.

Last year, Epic Games collaborated with Discord to offer a Star Wars-themed weapon skin to users who streamed Fortnite for at least 15 minutes. This experiment was well-received, prompting Discord to open up similar opportunities to more developers.

While the concept of Discord Quests may seem exciting, it raises concerns about the potential monetization of every aspect of the platform. In addition to quests, Discord also announced that it will work with developers to create profile effects and avatar decorations in the shop. This move has sparked discussions about the commercialization of user experiences and the impact it may have on the platform’s community.

Discord Quests and new shop items are expected to roll out in the coming weeks, so users are advised to review their privacy settings to manage the influx of these new features.
