Four Indiana women’s basketball players have been recognized for their outstanding performance in the All-Big Ten honors, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. The IU media relations released a statement congratulating the student-athletes for their remarkable achievements.
The honored players include graduate student forward Mackenzie Holmes and senior guard Sara Scalia, who both secured spots on the All-Big Ten first team. Senior guard Chloe Moore-McNeil received second team honors, while sophomore guard Yarden Garzon landed on the honorable mention team. All four players garnered votes from both the coaches and media, marking a significant accomplishment for the Hoosiers.
This recognition marks the fifth consecutive year that Indiana has placed one or more players on the first team, solidifying their position as one of the top-performing schools in the Big Ten. Holmes, in particular, has had an exceptional career at Indiana, earning a unanimous selection in both the coaches and media voting for the 2023-24 season. She has been a standout performer, leading the team in scoring with 20.7 points per game, ranking second in the Big Ten. Additionally, she has demonstrated prowess in rebounding, blocks, and shooting percentage, making her a formidable presence on the court.
Scalia, who has also had an illustrious career, secured her fourth All-Big Ten honor, with her first appearance on the first team. She has been a crucial asset to the team, showcasing her scoring abilities and leading the Big Ten in 3-point shooting. Her exceptional performance in her final season with the team has been highlighted by her record-breaking 91 3-pointers, surpassing the previous school single-season record.
Moore-McNeil and Garzon have also made significant contributions to the team, earning well-deserved recognition for their efforts on the court. Their inclusion in the All-Big Ten honors reflects the depth of talent and skill within the Indiana women’s basketball program.
