Reliance Industries is reportedly in preliminary talks to bring Irish fast-fashion retailer Primark into India. With over 400 stores across the UK, Europe, and the US, Primark is known for its affordable clothing and footwear, and has long been eyeing the Indian market.
If a deal is achieved, Primark will likely access the Indian market through a joint venture or licensing arrangement, utilizing Reliance’s retail presence and operational synergies to directly reach Indian consumers. According to reports, the majority of stores are expected to be located on high streets, aligning with Primark’s big-box style.
As one of the largest retailers in India, Reliance already boasts a significant array of global brand collaborations. A partnership with Primark would position the business to compete with the likes of Shoppers Stop’s InTune, Landmark Group’s Max, and Tata’s Zudio.
